History

The Collection of Medicinal and Aromatic Plants has been established in 1998 at the Department of Seed Science and Technology of the Faculty of Agriculture, University of Zagreb, Croatia. The activities on collecting, maintenance, characterization, evaluation and regeneration of MAP were carried out in the framework of two national scientific projects financed by the Ministry of Science, Education and Sports of the Republic of Croatia: 'Croatian Bank of Plant Genes (1991-2006; Main researcher: professor Ivan Kolak)' and 'Genetic Variability of Medicinal and Aromatic Plants (2002-2006; Main researcher: profesor Zlatko Šatović)'.

Currently, these activities are supported by the National Programme on Conservation and Sustainable Use of Plant Genetic Resources as well as by SEEDNet (South East European Development Network on Plant Genetic Resources) programme (seednet.geminova.net).
